A mi madre

This series is an intimate offering—a quiet gesture inspired by a ritual I inherited from my mother. Although I am not a believer, I grew up with the image of the Virgin of Charity of El Cobre on the wall, and every visit I make to the Sanctuary in Santiago de Cuba is on her behalf. I bring flowers and light as an act of love rather than faith.

When I first saw the mine, I knew that landscape—luminous, powerful, almost sacred—was the perfect setting to visually reinterpret that devotion that has accompanied me since childhood.

“A mi madre” explores the connection between memory, symbolism, and territory, transforming a personal ritual into a visual narrative. It is a tribute to my mother, to what endures, and to the ways in which someone else’s faith can also shape us.
